USS TANG is an American Balao class submarine of World War II. The ship's armament included 24 torpedoes, an anti-aircraft gun and two machine guns. The maximum tested draught was as much as 180 metres. She was launched on 17 August 1943. On 24 October 1944, during her fifth patrol, she was sunk. The ship's sole commanding officer was Richard O'Kane, who along with eight sailors survived the shipwreck and remained in Japanese captivity until the end of the war. Statistics show that USS TANG was the most successful submarine in the Pacific. It sank from 24 to 31 enemy vessels.
