Underwater Cities
The Violently growing number of overpopulated metropolises has shown humanity that it is time to establish a new home at the bottom of the sea. Algae farms will provide food. Desalination plants provide water. Laboratories will develop technologies necessary to build networks of underwater cities.
The players direct the development of their own underwater countries from the very beginning. They gather raw materials to build cities, transport networks and various buildings necessary to support life below the sea surface.
Each action in the game involves playing a card and choosing the appropriate action. If the card's color matches the action's, the player receives the benefit of the card. Sometimes the action can be so important for the player that he decides to perform it without having a matching card in his hand. Other times, the benefit of the card is so great that the player will choose an action that may not be spectacular, but has the right color. Making the right choices of this kind is the key to building an underwater environment conducive to human development.
Underwater Cities is the latest game of Vladimir Suche, the creator of such hits as Pulsar 2849, Last Will and Shipyard. The game became one of the hits of Essen 2018, and the rights to its release were bought by Rio Grande Games (the publisher of such hits as Race for the Galaxy or Dominion!). Underwater Cities is a eurogame designed for lovers of heavier titles such as Teotihuacan and Mage Knight. Many paths to victory, hard choices and unique mechanics, which have secured Underwater Cities nominations for the Golden Geek award in the categories of Game of the Year and Best Strategy Board Game.
