The hybrid adapter is used to connect single-mode or multimode fibers with LC/UPC – FC/UPC connectors, which are most often used in distribution frames, connecting patch cords with pigtails welded with fiber optic cable. Single-mode adapters have a ceramic centering element and it is more precisely made than a multimode adapter. The device can be used in fiber optics with high data transmission speed.
The signal in a multimode fiber allows light modes of different sizes to propagate in it. By spreading many modes of light in optical fiber, the so-called mode dispersion, i.e. blurring of the signal, occurs. This phenomenon has an impact on reducing the speed and transmission distance. Multimode fiber is an ideal solution when there is no need to transmit over distances greater than 5 km.
