In the world of Galecrest, sky pirates have set sail to ride the wind in search of adventure, treasure and fame. As Admiral, you will take command of a large and distinctive crew, just like your opponents who command other ships in the pirate fleet. Each day your fleet arrives at a different island, to which you send a crew member to get some of the loot for you. And you hope he'll return to add to your collection of characters.
Libertalia first hit the gaming market in 2012, and ten years later we're celebrating that original project with a revised and expanded edition, featuring new graphics, 40 characters per player, a reputation system for resolving ties, revamped loot tokens, a robust solo mode, and many other additions.
A game of Libertalia consists of three expeditions (rounds). Before each expedition, players gain the same set of 6 characters. Each day, during the expedition, players simultaneously select 1 character from their hand and play it. The characters are arranged on the island according to their rank, from lowest to highest (ties are decided by player reputation). Players activate the day abilities of these characters in order of lowest rank, then activate the twilight abilities and loot token selection in order of highest rank, and the characters move to the players' ships. Finally, the night abilities of the characters on the ships are activated.
At the end of the expedition, the players activate the characters' anchor abilities and gain their loot tokens and doubloons. They then discard these characters, as well as the loot tokens and doubloons, leaving only the unplayed character cards in their hand. At the end of the third expedition, the players reveal the final scores to decide who will go down in history as the richest of the pirates.
